Lilac Breasted Roller Birds Prints
Lilac Breasted Roller Birds Prints
From an original A2 pencil artwork commissioned as a gift for a family living in NZ originally from South Africa with real life experience of seeing these amazing birds first hand
I didn't know they existed before I met this family but what a joy to create !
Thoroughly loved using all those fabulously different colours in one piece
" These astonishingly colourful birds ( 8 colours in total ) live mainly in sub-Saharan Africa but also sometimes the Southern Arabian Peninsula. The name comes, not only from their stunning lilac plumage but also from the way they fly during courtship. Both male and female birds perform aerial displays mainly flying upwards first then tipping forward with wings closed before flapping to gain speed towards the ground and then rolling left and right a few times when levelling out and swopping up again hence the ' Roller ' bird name.
