About Sue
How it started ...
Drawing was always a natural ability from an early age ( around 6 years old I think ?! ) and my way of interpreting and expressing what delighted, intrigued and inspired me from the world around me.
I got given a set of Disney playing cards each with a different Disney character on and on one of those rainy indoor days was set the task of drawing the characters. This resulted in an almost prefect replica of what I could see - the bug bit as unbeknown to me at the time I experienced my first FLOW/ Bliss state !
You know.....when time stands still and you are FULLY absorbed in what you'e doing and in the moment
Learning the process...
I was privileged to have grown up in the in beautiful counties around Worcestershire surrounded by the beautiful British countryside and wildlife its no surprise that's what informed my studies of nature.
You would find me out and about at every opportunity with my camera snapping away capturing the myriad of different lights of the day and how it changed the colours and forms of the nature around me
Loving photography also allowed me to capture the essences I sensed and take it home to create and reference in my own time.
Thank goodness for Digital photography !
Plus I got a good hike to boot !
Changing Countries ....
Now living in stunning New Zealand South Island which equally inspired and amazed me from my very first visit I feel like the luckiest artist in the world !
May favourite ways to work
I usually go to my first love which is Pencil, coloured & graphite but also love pastels, pen & ink and sometimes painting with watercolour, gouache and acrylics.
My style tends towards detailed, realistic representation of my chosen subjects usually florals, animals, silhouettes, food, coastal influences amongst many many others .....we'd be here all day !
To recreate the beauty of the flora and fauna of the natural world I see around me and be able to share that inspiration with others and create joy and inspiration in their lives too is truly a gift and one I hope to continue expanding on
